The Most Visited US Cities on CRAIGSLIST (Information for Advertisers)

6/25/2019

Is Craigslist still a good platform to advertise on in 2019?  A question that produces many different opinions.  However, I suspect many would argue that it is still a good platform although it is no longer 100% free and the policies & procedures are now much stricter than they once were.  With over 60 million visitors each month, many advertisers feel that it still gets way too much traffic to be ignored.

As the name suggests, "craigslist" was started by a gentleman by the name of Craig -- "duh."  Yeah, I know, that's kind of obvious, right?  His full name is Craig Newmark, a San Francisco computer programmer.  He started it to email a list of local events and notices to his circle of friends in 1995 since he was new in town and thought it was a good way to bring the community together.  However, by 1996, Craig’s list had grown so big and popular that he moved the whole thing to a web-based service instead of email exchange, expanding his original content and adding new categories for users.

This information is golden to those advertisers wanting to maximize their reach.  While Craigslist was completely free to all advertisers at one time (as previously stated), today there is a charge for many of the listings.  However, with the millions of people visiting Craigslist every month, many advertiser will continue to use this platform to promote their services, products, events and job listings - especially when the location of their sales force, independent consultants or WFH agents has no relevance.
